Getting cleaner water on the road in an RV requires more than just clear-looking water. True safety comes from addressing what can't be seen. Filtration, purification, and boiling each work differently to make water safer.

Here’s how each method works and how they fit together for safer water.

1. Filtration: The First Line of Defense

Filtration is all about helping remove physical impurities and contaminants from your water. This acts as the initial defense, collecting and trapping all the bigger particles. Filters use materials like carbon, ceramic, or sediment cartridges to trap particles and improve taste.

What Filtration Helps Remove:
  • Sediment, rust, and dirt.
  • Chlorine and chemical odors.
  • Certain microorganisms and trace heavy metals, depending on the filter’s build and pore size.
Benefits of Filtration:
  • Greatly improves taste and clarity.
  • Protects plumbing and appliances from build-up.
  • Simple, cost-effective, and fast.
  • Helps reduce contaminants that could lead to sickness/negative health.

Bottom line: Filtration helps make your water cleaner and safer. It’s the essential first step in any reliable water treatment system.

2. Purification: An Added Layer of Protection

While filtration focuses on particles, purification targets pathogens, the microorganisms that can make you sick. Purification can be achieved using technology such as using UVC light.

What Purification Helps Eliminate:
  • Viruses
  • Bacteria
  • Protozoa and cysts
Benefits of Purification:
  • Final line of defense in the water filtration process.
  • Utilizes PURBLU® LED-based UVC technology.
  • Helps kill live bacteria and viruses at the DNA/RNA level.
  • Designed without mercury and fragile glass tubes.
  • Safer, non-toxic, eco-friendly.
  • Instant on/off design for energy efficiency and faster purification.
Bottom line: Purification contributes to enhancing the safety of water at the microscopic level, and when combined with filtration, it provides a highly effective and dependable water treatment solution.

3. Boiling: The Old Reliable

Boiling water is the oldest method of disinfection. By heating water to at least 212°F (100°C) for one minute (or three minutes above 6,500 feet), most harmful microorganisms are killed. On the other hand, it comes with several practical drawbacks that make it less ideal for everyday or on-the-road use:
  • High Energy Consumption
Boiling requires a significant amount of energy to heat water to 212°F (100°C) and maintain that temperature long enough to ensure disinfection. In an RV or off-grid environment, that can mean burning through propane or depleting battery reserves quickly. For those relying on solar or generator power, boiling can become an inefficient and unsustainable option over time.
  • Time-Consuming Process
To be effective, water must reach a full rolling boil for at least one minute, or three minutes at higher elevations. After that, the water must cool before it can be safely stored or consumed. That means long wait times, especially if you’re preparing several gallons
Bottom line: Boiling is a dependable emergency backup, but not practical for daily or on-the-go use, especially in an RV.

4. The Smart Solution: Blu Technology PURBLU®

The best solution is combining filtration and purification, a system that helps remove physical impurities and helps eliminate invisible microorganisms in one streamlined process. That’s exactly what Blu Technology created with the PURBLU® systems. You are receiving an advanced four-stage system. Filtration helps remove visible contaminants, including sediment, rust, chlorine, and chemical residues. Purification takes care of the invisible content, helping to eliminate viruses, bacteria, and other harmful microorganisms.

For RV owners, this combination is a game-changer. It means:
  • Premium water quality: High-quality purified water to all faucets and appliances
  • Powerful 4-stage process:
    • Stage 1 - Longevity: Captures larger particles up to 5 microns.
    • Stage 2 & 3 - OFF-GRID+: 0.2 micron constructed for industry leading filtration.
    • Stage 4 - UVC: Powerful UV light that eliminates pathogens.
  • Built-to-Last: Stainless steel design for durability.
Filtration improves quality, purification helps to ensure safety, and boiling offers a reliable backup. Together, they form the foundation of cleaner and safer water anywhere you go.

On November 20th, we’ll introduce you to our PURBLU® LED UVC technology. This new Blu Technology collection takes purification to the next level, pairing cutting-edge UVC technology with powerful filtration for cleaner and safer water for your RV.
