Why don’t the systems reduce TDS reading?

We appreciate people taking steps to learn more about their water. However, some people have used TDS meters to draw false conclusions about water quality. Deionized water measures ZERO on a TDS Meter. If you expose it to minerals that contain sodium, calcium, and magnesium, the water's TDS rises. Therefore, there is no such thing as deionized water in nature or ZERO.

As our filters decrease sub-micron contaminants, you most likely will get the same reading on your TDS water tester before and after our system. This is because, like any filtration process except RO, your water is not being stripped of essential minerals that are important for not only water taste, but also your health.

More sophisticated piece of equipment that are used in labs are needed to perform the types of measurements to determine presence of harmful water contaminants. The same equipment our third party labs have used to test our filters.

*NOTE: Reverse Osmosis is a process that will remove nearly all total dissolved solids (TDS), but it has major drawbacks. According to the World Health Organization, low mineral (TDS) drinking water produced by reverse osmosis or distillation is not suitable for long-term human consumption and in fact, can create negative health effects to those consuming it. This lack of minerals may also impact the taste
negatively for many people.

What does “NSF certified” mean?

NSF certification means a product has been independently lab-tested and factory-audited to meet specific safety/performance standards, it’s verification beyond marketing claims. Our Off-Grid Filter is NSF-certified and lab-tested, designed for tougher sources like lake/stream water. The standard 0.2 Micron Filter is not NSF-certified at this time (certification takes significant time/resources) but is built with FDA-approved materials per manufacturer representation.

Filters

Below are some of are common questions about our filters.

How do your filters/systems provide better quality water than other systems?

There are several elements that BluTechnology considered in the design of all their products for water
quality. Water quality is not just the filter alone, it is made up of the entire delivery system. The combination of these elements provides for whole system quality

Stainless Canisters

  • Hygiene and Cleanability
  • Stable material – UV resistance, heat resistance and pressure resistance
  • High strength, high dimensional accuracy, and the corrosion resistance
  • In-depth filtration, excellent blocking ability
  • Simple and easy operation, convenient maintenance for end users.
  • Low operating cost, reliable performance, and the life span for many years

Stainless Quick Connects/Unit Connectors

  • Hygiene and Cleanability
  • Brass can contain lead and should not be used for drinking water
  • High strength, high dimensional accuracy, and the corrosion resistance

Blu Technology “Safety” 0.2 Micron 5” filter

The Blu Technology filter is like those used in the food, beverage, and hospital applications where safety and health are of major importance. The key to the filter’s performance is the filters’ ability to not let microscopic contaminates pass through. The size of micro particles are measured in microns.

Object Size of Micron:
Bacteria: .5 - 50 microns
Paint pigment: 1.5 microns
Pollen: 10 - 90 microns
White blood cells: 25 - 30 microns
Yeast: 2 - 15 microns
Silica sand : 100 - 200 microns
Human hair: 80 - 100 microns
Pin point: 75 microns

Do the filters come with your systems?

All our products are shipped with the appropriate filters for the purchased system. If you would like to have an extra set on hand, we recommend purchasing with your system to save on shipping cost.

What’s the difference between Blu Technology’s 0.2 Micron Filter and the Off-Grid Filter?

Certification & testing: Off-Grid Filter is NSF-certified and lab-tested, designed for scenarios like drawing from a lake or stream. The standard 0.2 Micron Filter is not NSF-certified at this time (certification is resource-intensive), but it’s built with FDA-approved materials per manufacturer representation.

The Off-Grid is an absolute 0.2 micron filter, verified to capture contaminants at that size. The standard 0.2 Micron is a nominal filter, engineered to target that size but not guaranteed to 100% at the absolute threshold.

The Off-Grid adds an electroadhesive coating for an additional capture layer, providing a performance boost over the standard 0.2 micron filter.

Both filters work with Blu Tech systems; pick based on source water and certification needs.

Will Blu Technology filters fit in other brand canisters?

Our 5” and 10” filters are designed to the industry standard, so they can be used in your existing housings. If you are using plastic housings, we highly recommend upgrading to stainless steel.

What are the flow ratings of your systems?

Rx and Rx+:

These units have a 3 gpm pump on board, which is higher than the water flow in most
households.

R2, R3, Solo, Duo and Trio:

The flow rating of these systems are dependent on the source water pressure. If installed with the Blu Technology 0.2 Micron filter you should expect limited reduction in flow relative to the source.

Do your filters remove minerals?

Our systems do not remove minerals, and this is one of the largest benefits! Unlike reverse osmosis, our systems filter out all the bad stuff while maintain the critical minerals such calcium, sodium, potassium and magnesium that are need for good health and great taste.

I only use my RV a few times a season. What do I do between my trips?

After 7 days it is recommended to store your filters. If a filter is not regularly flowing water through it bacteria will grow depending on, temperature, humidity, and the type of filter material used. In general, stagnant water can promote bacterial growth, and it's possible for bacteria to begin growing within a few days to a week.

To properly prepare and store used water filters, there are a few steps you can follow:

  1. Remove the filter: Start by carefully removing the used water filter from its housing. (See how to properly store your Blu Tech Water Filtration System)
  2. Dry the filter: Allow the filter to air dry completely in a well-ventilated area. Ensure it is completely dry before storing, as moisture can promote mold or bacterial growth.
  3. Store in a clean, dry place: Store the cleaned and dried filter in a sealed container or a resealable
bag to protect it from dust, dirt, and moisture. Place the container in a cool, dry location away from
    direct sunlight.
Where may I obtain replacement filter cartridges?

We have made all our filters conveniently available at our online store and on Amazon. We are happy to ship to your home, campground or nearest shipping store. We do recommend to always have an extra set
on hand, just to make sure you always have clean drinking water. Look for the season start sales.

Do Blu Technology filter systems address lead?

If you are using the Blu Technology OFFGRID filter, lead is reduced beyond 95%, as verified and tested by third party labs.

Do Blu Technology filter systems treat sulfur smell?

The Blu Technology R2/R3, AR2/AR3/AR3 XLT, Duo and Trio systems will have the Blu Technology “Tasty” Coconut Charcoal filter while our ARx/ARx+ and AR3 UVC system utilize a Carbon block inside the OFFGRID+ filter. The coconut shell filter and Carbon block filter has been developed to remove chlorine and objectionable tastes and odors found in tap water. It also reduces certain levels hydrogen sulfide (the source of the smell). Because of coconut carbon’s wide surface area and its porosity, this form of filtration can remove chemicals that have proven difficult to expel using other forms of carbon.

However, if you still smell sulfur, the first thing to remember is not to panic. Hydrogen sulfide gas in drinking water is mostly a nuisance and its presence does not pose a health risk despite the noxiously bad odors and taste they cause in your water. The odors are very strong and can be detected at very low levels therefore it is important that you start by trying to determine the source of the problem. First check the smell of the water coming out of both the cold and hot faucets at a sink by turning them on (one at a time) and letting it run a few minutes. If the odors can only be found in the hot water the main source of the problem is possibly due to the water heater. If running the water a few minutes removes the smell, then the cause of the odor is in the plumbing which means a plumbing system cleaning may be needed.

Try the same experiment at other faucets to see if you also detect the odor. The presence of the odor at only certain sinks could mean that the source is somewhere in the drains, fixtures or pipes and not the water. If this is the case, a simple sink disinfection and flushing procedure may be able to remove the odors.

How many gallons of water can your filters filter before needing changed?

Our three stage filtration systems have an estimated filter life of 3,000-4,000 gallons while our two stage systems and our AR3 UVC system will see between 2,000-3,000 gallons. However, due to the varying sources of water on your travels, you may see shorten life spans due to the turbidity of the water sources. To assure you always have clean, tasty drinking water we recommend checking your filters at 2000 gallons for our 5" filters and if you happen to have one of our 10", check every 2500 gallons.

Check out ALL our filters!

How often should I change my filter?

There are three ways to know when to change your filters: Every 1,000-2,000 gallons of water used (SEE NOTE BELOW); once a season (every 3-4 months), or when you see a drop in your water pressure. If the filter sits stagnant for an extended period of time, you should change it before your next trip.

NOTE: And depending on the turbidity of your water source you may have to change more often. Additionally, the 10 inch .2 micron filters, filters up to 2,000 gallons and the 5 inch .2 micron filters up to 1,000.

Check out our filters here

Should I flush my system before use?

It is always required that you should let your system run for a minimum of 1 minute before use and between filter changes. This allows the canisters to fill up and pressurize appropriately for use.

Does Blu Technology filters remove iron (rust) from well water?

They reduce iron/rust particulates, but won’t remove 100%, especially dissolved iron. If you’re on well water, that orange tint on your sediment canister is normal and means it’s catching iron particles. For high iron (and hard water), pair the filters with a CHI Tank (Chlorine, Hydrogen Sulfide & Iron Filter) in front of your filters for the best results

Water Filtration System

Below are some common questions about our water filtration system

What’s the difference between Blu Technology’s 3-stage systems?

All three use the same 3-stage filtration and stainless-steel quick-connects. The differences are in the frames, size/weight, and how you install them:

  • AR3: Anodized aluminum frame (durable, corrosion-resistant, lightweight). Smaller 6.5" deep footprint, ~7.9 lb. Portable.
  • R3: Hard polycarbonate frame (sturdy, a bit larger). 8.75" H × 8.75" D × 14" W, ~11 lb. Portable.
  • TRIO: Stainless-steel frame (very durable, corrosion-resistant). 11" × 5" × 8.75", ~6.3 lb. Fixed mount (not portable).
Should I use a pressure regulator with your system?

Pressure regulators are always a good idea to protect you RV internal plumbing systems. Manufacturer recommendations suggest limiting the water pressure between 40 and 60 psi. As with RV plumbing systems, it is a good idea to put the regulator up stream from the Blu Technology system to protect your investment.

How to I protect my system from theft?

These systems can be tethered to any object with a standard cable, bike chain or whatever you choose.

Can the Solo be used as a whole RV filter system?

While the SOLO is a great line of defense over other products, we would recommend our Duo and Trio for whole RV system primarily due to water volume.

The DUO has an additional coconut charcoal filter, that great helps with taste and smell.

The TRIO has a sediment filter in the first stage that extends the life of the other filters. It also has the dame coconut charcoal filter as the Duo, that great helps with taste and smell.

As a note, we also offer a portable version of these fixed mounted units, and these would be our AR or R series filtration systems.

Why are you using Stainless Steel Canisters?

Our stainless-steel canister design has been thoroughly thought through with customer feedback. Customers wanted something they could:

  1. Assure their canisters were clean and could be cleaned with solutions without damage or penetrate the
    surface
  2. Wanted something that was not bulky and hard to install
  3. Wanted something that could hold up to the elements without chalking or degrading

Stainless steel benefits:

  1. Hygiene and Cleanability
  2. Stable material – UV resistance, heat resistance and pressure resistance
  3. High strength, high dimensional accuracy, and the corrosion resistance
  4. In-depth filtration, excellent blocking ability
  5. Simple and easy operation, convenient maintenance for end users.
  6. Low operating cost, reliable performance, and the life span for many years

Is your system easy to hook up?

For our filtration systems that come with our quick connect fittings attached, it is as 1-2-3.

  1. Snap the provided quick connects into the unit
  2. Connect to water source
  3. Turn it on We provide instructional videos for all the R series on our website.

For the Solo, Duo and Trio, we conveniently ship them with ½ PEX style fittings, which are standard on most RVs. It there are special needs.

Please contact us at service@goblutech.com.

Why do you use stainless steel connectors versus brass? Can I use brass?

The main reason for the use of stainless steel is to assure that we have no trace elements of lead that can be found in brass fittings. HOWEVER, since the law identified this, there are now lead-free brass connectors, but why take chances.

The other major reason is that stainless steel is corrosion resistant and easy to clean. No turning green or pitting

What fittings are used to connect the systems?

ARx and ARx+:
These are stand-alone units that comes with stainless steel hoses that connect to the system via stainless steel quick connects. For the outlet side of the unit, customers can purchase an optional Garden Hose quick connect to interface with the unit. *Please note the inlet stock hose should always be used to not damage the pump and void warranty.

AR2/R2 and AR3/R3:
These units come with Garden Hose quick connects that you can install on your hose, that interface with the units quick connects.

Solo, Dual and Trio:
These units come with ½ PEX style fittings and tape. They are design to be used
with ½ PEX hard line and can be used with vinyl hose and a hose clamp. Other fittings are available by contacting customer service.

Note: ALWAYS use lead free or stainless steel fitting for drinking water

How can I prevent O-ring leaks in my Blu Technology system?

To prevent this in the future, before disconnecting anything, turn your water source off and then head inside your RV and open a water faucet for a few seconds. This will "bleed" the pressure from the line making it so that when you disconnect the hose or accessory, the pressure will already have escaped out of the faucet beforehand and will not escape from the opened fitting.

What is Reverse Osmosis?

Reverse osmosis essentially will remove everything from the water, contaminants, sediment, as well as vitamins and minerals. A reverse osmosis system may not be the best fit for your case though due to having to keep the RO system inside and usually as a point of use system due to the lowered flow rate. With RO, you will also create "wastewater" that you will have to dispose of as well that could be a hassle.

With our filtration system and softener, they can be placed in a wet bay, or outside of the RV and can be used to filter all the water going into your RV (point of entry).

Our filtration systems would differ from reverse osmosis systems as reverse osmosis systems essentially remove all dissolved solids from the water you are filtering. Our filtration systems do not filter down to this level, as they will leave the dissolved solids in the water. Dissolved solids refers to the combined content of all inorganic and organic substances dissolved in water, including minerals, salts, metals, and organic matter.

Our filtration systems will come included with our standard filter set which filters down to a 0.2 micron, and if you choose to upgrade to our NSF certified and third party tested filters, the OFFGRID filters, the electro-adhesive coating on the  OFFGRID 0.2 will allow the filter to filter down contaminants below 0.2 microns, essentially to 0.02 micron which is virus level (I will share testing results below). Our filters will keep dissolved solids like minerals and vitamins in the water though, so there is a taste difference between water filtered through our system with vitamins and minerals, compared to reverse osmosis water with none of this. This also means our filtrations systems do not remove hardness causing minerals like calcium, and a water softener would be needed (Included in full bundle). With a water softener in addition, you would be removing the hardness causing minerals like calcium and magnesium too.

What are the main Water Filtration Systems Blu Tech offers and what are the main differences?

The best way to answer this is we have designed our filtration systems around the following grouped categories, OFF GRID WATER USE, PRESSURIZED WATER USE, FIX MOUNTED WATER USE and we will soon be launching an additional line that is meant for HOME/RV WATER USE (countertop).
